MWM: "Sacred Made Real"

Mornings With Mary

In 2010, I saw an amazing sculpture exhibit at the National Museum of Art in Washington, DC. It was called "The Sacred Made Real: Spanish Painting and Sculpture, 1600-1700." The artist was Juan Martínez Montañés. I was so in awe of the detail. They were so lifelike.

gazing at mary ~
only the glass between us
tells me she's not real

I have to guess that this is Mary holding Jesus after the crucifixion. Wanted to share how extraordinary the details were of these sculptures. Mary Magdalene is to the left holding a cross.

    1. Thank you, Nonnie. I responded earlier but guess I forgot to his publish. So appreciate your visiting. The Monday Mornings With Mary wasn't posted today so this is ready to be linked up next time. Found this exhibit close to closing but could have spent hours in there.

    1. Some were not in glass but I do remember the gold Mary in glass. Perhaps the photo was taken before the traveling display?

  5. Thank you, Fran. I originally did not know it was primarily for photography. My main reason for being online is writing, mostly haiku. So I like to accompany images with haiku to practice my "craft".

  7. dear maggie grace,
i love that you are using visual images of mary to couple with and inspire your writing. mornings with mary is an open door to sharing inspiration in any creative way that one feels moved too. a way to share the honoring of a new week with an eye and heart for the sacred within and around us all.
thank you for your caring thoughts through this particularly devastating week. prescott is a small town and everyone knows someone directly through family and town life.
