Mornings With Mary
In 2010, I saw an amazing sculpture exhibit at the National Museum of Art in Washington, DC. It was called "The Sacred Made Real: Spanish Painting and Sculpture, 1600-1700." The artist was Juan Martínez Montañés. I was so in awe of the detail. They were so lifelike.

I have to guess that this is Mary holding Jesus after the crucifixion. Wanted to share how extraordinary the details were of these sculptures. Mary Magdalene is to the left holding a cross.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Nonnie. I responded earlier but guess I forgot to his publish. So appreciate your visiting. The Monday Mornings With Mary wasn't posted today so this is ready to be linked up next time. Found this exhibit close to closing but could have spent hours in there.
DeleteThree beautiful images. Three beautiful haikus. The drama of the pieta is gripping.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Annie. All left me breathless.
DeleteThat glass? It's just an illusion! :)
ReplyDeleteSome were not in glass but I do remember the gold Mary in glass. Perhaps the photo was taken before the traveling display?
DeleteThese are exquisite pieces and I always love how you accompany your photos with haiku. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Fran. I originally did not know it was primarily for photography. My main reason for being online is writing, mostly haiku. So I like to accompany images with haiku to practice my "craft".
ReplyDeletea breathtaking post, wow! those sculptures literally took my breath away and beautiful evocative words!
