Toads: Angels of the Night

Imaginary Garden With Real Toads
Nocturna (3 3-line connecting verses)

full moon cloudless sky
stars twinkling their messages
to the unknown

through branches of trees
full moon lights my path
while owl watches over me

guardian angels of night
see me safely home
by light of the moon

  1. This is such a beautiful glimpse of a moonlit walk alone...really makes me want to do the same....thank you for granting us these sights of your imagination, Maggie. :)

  2. I like the guardian angels of the night, guiding one safely home ~

As to the form though, you need to follow the rhyming pattern at the end (word of each line): a. b. a. c. b. c. d. b. d.
Also the 2nd, 5th and 8th (end) word must rhyme ~ Perhaps you can try again ~

Thanks for participating in Sunday's Challenge ~

    1. Grace, you had said in the challenge: "You may or may not follow the syllabic requirement per line." I thought that meant I could do what I could. Sorry if I misunderstood.

    2. I see, I have edited the post to indicate the 10 syllables line requirement may or may not be followed. The rhyming pattern is important though because that is what makes a poem, a nocturna.

To help me with the end rhyming words, I use the rhyming dictionary (just google it) and once I have my rhyming words in place, I work backwards ~ Its like a crossword puzzle in my head ~ It takes time to get used to writing to forms ~ Hope this little tip will help you ~

  4. Has a real 'prayer' feel to it. I wanted to add 'amen'.

  5. It can be hard to write to a new form when a poem just flows, as this seems to have done. You can either rewrite it to the Nocturna form, or not, because it's your poem, and it's lovely.

  6. What a safe feeling this poem gives. Especially with the moon lighting your path in dappled light.

  7. This is quite beautiful. There are few things I enjoy better than nighttime walks under the moon. I planning to carry some of these words with me on my next walk :)

  8. Thank you to all who commented and liked my haiku in spite of not conforming to the form. I was gone all day and am behind in comments. Please know how much I appreciate your reading and saying something positive. Gene, how sweet of you to say what you did.
