Imaginary Garden With Real Toads

in city of the dead
raven caws
his kingdom
now invaded
a trollish man
with spirits black
wreaks of danger
to the haven
raven caws
to signal all
blackbirds within range
on cue attack
evil man to death
each proud
of peckish rage
another body
amidst the tombs
nameless without heart
but safe again
city of the dead
as we hear the raven caw
(In New Orleans, the above-ground cemeteries are known as cities of the dead. The opening scene of the video inspired my writing. Some rhyming but mostly free verse...whatever that is. I did like writing...cathartic for evil little green man.)
City of the dead...quite appropriate. I like your take on the clip. It seems the crows find their feast.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading, Susie. Not my best but gave it a go. Appreciate the comment!
DeleteRavens blend well with this little clip. It is a morbid setting!
ReplyDeleteThat it was. Difficult to watch. That's why I had the birds kill him off. hehe Thanks for reading and commenting!
Deletehmmm...this poem has sounds! I like how it starts and ends with the crows, and I love how you used a NoLa reference...it adds a little creoleness and pops from the page. Thanks soooo much for posting to my prompt
ReplyDeleteThank you, Isadora! Am glad you didn't see the comment I removed. lol. It was really very disturbing but I had liked the beginning and had been to NoLa and definitely heard the caw in the clip.
DeleteI thought I recognized the style of a New Orleans cemetery. And I like ravens, a sacred bird on the coast of British Columbia. If they didn't like an invader into their territory, they would indeed make short shrift of him.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
K
Thank you, Kay! I imagine other water logged places have above ground cemeteries too but I have seen New Orleans and that clip looked like what I saw.
DeleteNice response to what i found to be an increasingly disturbing video clip. I love those Nawlins cemeteries!
ReplyDeleteI found it so disturbing, it took me a long time to stop being upset by it. Love that you know it's Nawlins ;-O Thank you for reading and commenting!
DeleteI like the way the crows seem to guard the city of the dead for the dead - and eradicate the living man if he dares enter.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kerry! I meant for the ravens to go after the man as an evil intruder...not all men. But either way is fine. lol
DeleteLots of quirky images in this, especially of the community of crows, which I really enjoyed--and I think there was very much a feeling of a 'city of the dead' in that clip--where only beings like the little crazy man feel truly at home.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your feedback. Odd prompt but definitely challenged me...all of us I think ;-O
DeleteDark!! I love the ending and the power in the ravens...just as it would be...so cool!!
ReplyDeleteLove your reaction, Hannah :))
