dVerse: Got Life?

dVerse: Slogans

is it live or memorex
the slogan of my life
got milk?
i'm not lovin' it
a mind is a terrible thing to waste
which is why the government
shaped and prodded and divided
to make it
be all that it can be
like a good soldier

have it your way
was always a lie
even when i thought it was my way
Hertz might put you in the driver's seat
but you still have to Just Do It
or suffer the consequences

not maybe...
i was born with it
to take a licking
and keep on ticking
but i broke and healed
and i'm worth it
but life still sucks
and where's that slogan?
Met life? No...where is it?

like a good soldier... ugh....they surely try to do some brain washing - i have read an article about how they "form" the mind of soldiers in a specific country - really it made my hair stand...
and def. we need to find our own way to meet life finally...

    1. Yes, it happens in other countries but most don't want to believe it happens in the US. It is chilling to read. Thank you for reading mine.

  2. I like the way you used slogans in your poem, Maggie. Yes, 'have it your way' is sometimes impossible...even though we might hope. And sitting in the driver's seat is sometimes not easy!!

  3. You do show us how empty those slogans are! All empty words.

  4. mmm i can see how that slaogan would play out for you as well...reality or programming...to take the licking and keep on ticking, while nice to be able to, its a little sad you have to take the licking in the first place....yeah you blended in several in this...very nice maggie...

    1. Sorry to give you two to read but I when I saw the list of slogans, my brain just started putting them together...like a frenzy more than planned poetry. Thank you.

  5. Those slogans are quite humiliating when put in the wrong context... you put it very well, and personal... this is very good...

    1. Thanks, Bjorn. Sorry I've been too overwhelmed lately to use my little program to add the two dots over your "o". You know I mean them to be there...

  7. I really liked your piece, Maggie, and like you, after reading the prompt some inner hip-hop tempo began beating in my head, and too wrote in a frenzy, with abandonment, and a mild Madison Ave rant & riff was born.

  8. Timex! I had forgotten that slogan. To use it as a metaphor for life is brilliant. I can certainly relate.

  9. That is nicely done! You used the slogans and demonstrated how they do not work in every area of life. The personal touch you added made it a sentimental read.

  11. How subliminal advertising can be - how we are coerced into a way of thinking. Brilliantly done.
