This tree on this beautiful early Spring day when its leaves were just beginning to bloom was the perfect place. She sat down facing the sun with her back against her tree—her tree of solace and wisdom where she could feel its energy pulsate into her being.

Mostly she remembered this gnarly old tree, alone on the empty hillside, for the times they had strolled together to sit beneath it and speak of their lives together.

His death had been a shock.  Her wish had been to die before him. But now, on this day, sitting beneath this tree, she would join him forever.

  1. After reading some of the other stories, I'm expecting him to be dead in the tree and it to take her in, too. :-) Yikes!! I guess if she's going to join him, this is an appropriate spot.

    BTW, "its leaves", not "it's".

  2. I think nature can have that power, especially a tree that one returns to again and again. This makes me want to sit under a tree with someone!

    1. Thanks for your time and comments. I adore huge old trees. Am a city dweller but have been to see the Redwoods and overseas have seen centuries old Sycamore trees. Very cool.

  3. A sad story. You captured the feeling of one not able to let go and live without their true love. An excellent story.

It sounds like she's made a plan. You've captured her loneliness and yet the peace the tree affords. Nice.
