Trifextra: Week Sixty-Four
This weekend we're asking for exactly 33 of your own words plus the following three words: (1) charge, (2) century, and (3) lost. So 33 of yours plus 3 of ours means that everyone will have a 36 word response.
Not remembering her past lives, Dakota felt lost in this century. She embraced her Native American upbringing. Often she felt drawn to the spirit of her warrior ancestors--those who would charge into battle without hesitation.
Love that first line, the assumption that she would or should remember them.
ReplyDelete:)) Thank you for visiting!
DeletePast lives... that's interesting. And Lost in this Century... I liked that.
ReplyDeleteThere is something glorious, noble and brave about that..nice writing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ted and Pirate! Glad you liked it. These challenges are definitely stretching my brain.
ReplyDeleteI've often felt "lost" in this century as well. Dakota really spoke to me. I like this!
ReplyDeleteGreat first sentence! These words do speak bravery.
ReplyDeleteDakota sounds like an interesting woman. Id love to hear about her past lives.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visits and comments! Gosh, never wrote about past lives before. But it flowed right out of me for this prompt. lol. I did want to stretch myself here...
ReplyDeleteThe past lives is intriguing. I bet you could tell some cool stories about that!
ReplyDeletecharging into battle without hesitation - great way to slide in her character's description (and a good reminder of why that may have been a past life now) ;)
ReplyDeleteI firmly believe that we can draw strength from those who came before us, and I'm glad she feels a connection to her ancestors!
ReplyDeleteThis was a powerful piece!
Sometimes I write something that feels okay but not good or strong and this was one of those times. But you are seeing it through different eyes and I so much appreciate the comments and feedback. "Not in my comfort zone" is hard to self judge. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSuch brave warriors they were, I'm sure (:
ReplyDeleteOccasionally I feel displaced in my own time period, so this resonated. Well done!
ReplyDeletea good beginning to a bigger story, I think. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's often so hard to charge into battles... Nice thought to hold on to for inspiration, those warrior ancestors.
ReplyDeleteI like the line about her being drawn to her ancestors. Great!
ReplyDeleteYou do meet people who seem to have born too late. Perhaps it all of us. Nice take.
ReplyDeleteThanks to all for visiting and commenting! I feel like I should be somewhere in the future ;-O
ReplyDeleteOne can relate to this piece in so many ways- many of us feel this way-wrong time, wrong place, wrong person-ah!A beautiful piece of writing Maggie:-)
ReplyDeleteWow, this spoke to me in a big way! I won't bore you with the details, but I'm a ridiculously pale hermit with both Irish and Cherokee heritage. The fighting spirit is constantly there but... oops, sorry, I said I wouldn't bore you! *blush*
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Maggie... so beautiful!
Thank you, Atreyee and Dana! Love the details :))
