The goal is to write a new haiku in the same sense, tone and spirit as the inspirational haiku by Garry Gay.

seven pools in canyon
become chakras
(My first ceremony in Sedona was hiking a canyon path to cleanse my chakras. After the ceremony I was shown the seven different shaped pools that are known as the chakras. The pool most filled with water that day went with the chakra most needing work, coincidentally or not ~ my throat chakra.)

Haiku Journey: Vision Quest Sedona
May 15: Arrival
waxing crescent moon
beacon in a cloudless sky
winding rocky roads
May 16
quest begins today
red rock canyon at sunset
her feather release
must gather courage
not knowing when
exhale when she leaves
breathe her wings so she can fly
the vortex awaits
Morning: Jin Shin Jyutsu (ancient art of
harmonizing the life energy in the body)
hummingbird at window
first time in my life to see
my tiny totem
while rosebuds gather
we seek to bloom by parting
awaiting her flight
breathing her further
from my touch
Evening: Chakra Balancing/Sunset Meditation
hike the path
cleanse chakras with swirling wind
ground self to the earth
strong earth energy
tree trunks spiraled from the wind
crystal in the sand
a soul healing invitation
unwanted nefarious emotions
cast into deep crater
sacrifice to Mother Nature
peace within the light
hiking down canyon
hummingbird finds me again
my winged messenger

Morning : Soul Retrieval Ceremony
prayer flags in the trees
alight the pathway to peace
cacti reach up to pray
stone medicine wheel
drum and pray ~ all directions
thank the elements
call back my being
live in my heart and temple
Raven flies to freedom
leaving me with life
a new oneness
white sage offering
thanking raven for her gift
drum her my heartbeat
wispy clouded skies
keep hot desert sun at bay
vortex breezes swirl
Evening: Reiki Massage
reiki in comfort
canyon rocks traded for bed
energy moves but I do not
tingsha chimes chakras
quiet now the night

Morning: Vortex Experience with Shamanic Guide
listen for the bells
in Mary's sacred chapel
tune out all but self
feel the vortex
Madonna so close
black feather of death
spirals up to higher realm
giving me new life
find the sacred place
Raven's suffering honored
only the gods know
listen to the wind
hear its sacred whispering
i begin to ohmmm
wise face of canyon
smiles knowingly
Afternoon: Helicopter Ride Through Canyons
flying through canyon
sacrifice my fear for her
a loving debt paid
nearing journey's end
sacred spirits surround me
will they follow home
Evening: Massage
last healing session
massage releases body pain
coming home different
when will i know
did oneness happen
May 19: Journey Home
Where are the ravens?
Everywhere but here for me
Are they hiding?
A conspiracy?
My Raven invisible
Perhaps a message
of my journey

Prelude - Vision Quest
Kerry's Wednesday Challenge ~ The Prelude
days, years, eons, a lifetime
have brought me to this place of being
a vision quest for spirit to be released
united, found, experienced
it matters not what words are used
the vision quest will play out before me
as I embrace who is me within
the realm that is me and the universe
at the red rocks of the canyon
at the place of the vortex
all will become known

A Divided Self Speaks
I know her as Raven...She is speaking to me
we share a heart and soul
we come from the same seed
spawned into evil
you were the one who never knew
i knew all
we were forever connected
in that darkness
we have always loved each other
as twins do
internal twins
always feeling each others presence
but not being able to touch or speak
until the amnesia created a portal
we've been healing together
for 16 years
as long as our spirits are entwined
you will never be free from the misery
and i will never be set free from the body
it is because you love me
you are willing to let me go
but we will still be united through
our cosmic dust
the astral plane
our telepathy
my release will be your release
the canyon awaits us both
say goodbye to me by
floating the black feather into the canyon
you will feel me leave
setting you free is my love for you
they made it so we could never truly be one
but i know how to part ways and
keep the invisible thread between us
you have worked hard to set us free
all who have healed have waited
not to feel the burden of our
unfathomable grief and terror
when i leave
the blackness that we were made to believe
was our soul
will be carried by the vortexes
and disappear where it can
harm no other
it will leave me because i carry it
which is why i must leave the body
i will separate from the soul
that was never us
and take the spirit that is mine
and part of the one we share
only goodness will bind us together
my terror now leaks through to you
i hope you will let go as i leave
and not try to hold on
or you will retain some of the darkness
and there will be no way for it to leave
i will carry both of us to freedom
think of me soaring in the canyons
and nesting on Native American soil
my spirit will never die
the cosmos will know what we endured
and what we had to sacrifice
breathe out when you feel me leave
exhale the sludge of our life into the canyon
your breath will be my wings
i know this holds some sadness for you
it was never our choice to have this life
i do know your love is letting me go
one soul divided is still one soul
and so we will remain
