Wordle: Draught

Sunday Whirl
Wordle 119

crows revisited the vegetation
what had been rooted now eroded
scarce rain drained the last cells
of strength
next year new seeds will be planted
one cell will divide...and then another
nature will weave her magic
with her unending loom of mystery

Wordle: Diagnosis

The Sunday Whirl
Wordle 117

the lab detected cancer
it had to be a mistake
he is young and deserves
a second chance
how could he be so sick
after clearing his conscience
on a high note of life
finally
friends and family together
try to translate the meaning
the impact to his life
to theirs
to his love
and baby girl
they will not rest
search for hope
another opinion
and pray
he will not leave

Wordle: The Nineteen

The Sunday Whirl
Wordle #116

where there's smoke, there's fire
what happens when the ordinary
take on the impossible
risking their lives
to save others

make the climb, take the plunge
the scared flee their homes
clinging to words of the play-by-play
of the media

pressure builds as fire nears
no orders to flee
the ordinary become extraordinary
through actions and deeds
fate is not kind
the might of flame and wind
extinguish lives

listen to the voices in the wind
they are one with the fire
one with the elements
and delivered to heaven
our prayers barraging them
the nineteen

Although the poem is focused on the heroic nineteen firefighters, prayers go out to all impacted by the destruction of the blaze in Arizona.

Wordle: Teens in Love

The Sunday Whirl
Wordle #113

Write prose/poetry incorporating the following words:

moonshine lights the path
giggle shatters the silence
crazy teenage love

chattering from cold
sense of love loads them with warmth
scoops her in his arms

doorway like a cave
cuts the windchill around them
stealing a quick kiss

in the wake of love
anything to stay together
jarring door splits them

time to part ways
parents have intervened
moment is shattered

wind on the prairie
so nimble swirling 'round limbs
crave cooling rapture

train of tumbleweeds
down the halls of no man's land

parched throat from hot sun
pausing to reach for canteen
embrace desert view

Wordle: Vision Quest

Sunday Whirl
Wordle 109

Write in any form using the following words:

a vision to travel to blazing sun
timing now - off to Arizona
healing breath crucial
crush rose petals to offer prayers
touch the ancient trees
agave stand like torches in the canyon
slabs of rock cut into the canyon floor
bleak history displayed in upper strata
speak of oceans past
volcanic eruptions
lost civilizations
sacred moment of healing felt and honored
hover over canyon in helicopter
embracing the beauty
at times opaque from my tears
nebulous internal messages
in time I will know
the changes within
from my vision quest

Wordle: Raven Circling Sun

The Sunday Whirl
Wordle 108

Write poetry/prose/haiku using the following 12 words.

My offering: Prose and two haiku.

At the mouth of the river
near the cave of the ancient ones
I mouth the chants and the vow
binding myself to space and time

raven circling sun
lands on broken branch
eyes gazing at me

shaking fist in anger
crook of my arm reveals scars
my last wish ignored

(Please know the last haiku is fiction for those who might worry.)

Spring Garden

The Sunday Whirl: Wordle 106

Write a poem or prose using the following words:

winter's brittle twigs
replaced with thin flexible branches
new growth burgeoning from its marrow
leaves nearly transparent
will soon bring forth roses
rich in color and scent

clearing debris gathered since last summer
grubs march quickly as rocks are unearthed
a harrowing experience i guess
for them to be exposed
either to a rare ray of sunshine
or the sight of a human in their midst

i saw a robin borrow string
perhaps a nest nearby
last year an oath to provide birdhouses
i peek in each to check
but find proof of life in the wisteria vine
my garden, my sanctuary

Whose Will Is Done?

The Sunday Whirl "Wordle" #105

The Sunday Whirl blog invites writers to write a poem or short prose using some or all of the “wordle’s” 12 word.

they call us infidels
those who shock us with their bloodshed
from bombs they use against
our land of freedoms and equality

minds are fragile
we know not how they harden
they sought shelter in our country
and now we struggle to understand
why they turned against us

in our resilience and ability to thrive
to right the wrong
in the promise to "bring to justice"
did we act in haste?
cheers for the dead and near dead

i rejoice that boston once again feels safe
that the bloodshed has been spent for now
that mourning and healing can ensue

but how many more minds are
being molded in this moment?
i wonder how many more
who would harm us without thought
or conscience
and at whose will?
